The Johnson Family - Gary, Candice, Trevor, and Julia
Gary Johnson Becomes
Hawaii Conference Treasurer

The Hawaii Conference Executive Committee has extended the invitation to Mr. Gary Glenn Johnson to be the Hawaii Conference Treasurer.  And, after prayerful consideration, Mr. Johnson has accepted this call, and he and his family will be moving to Hawaii in January 2009.

Gary was born into a 4th generation Seventh-day Adventist home in Erie, Pennsylvania.  Johnson graduated from Andrew University with a Bachelors of Business Administration degree, with an emphasis in Accounting.  During his college years, Gary spent a year as a student missionary at Shire Valley Leprosy and Tuberculosis Control Project in Malawi, East Africa.  This experience influenced his life in terms of the mission of the church, service to others, working and living cross culturally, and traveling. Gary has since completed his Masters of Business Administration degree from Regis University in Denver, Colorado, and is currently licensed as a certified public accountant in the state of California.

Following graduation from Andrews University, Mr. Johnson work for almost 12 years in the Northern California Conference, first as a Business Intern, and later as an Accountant, Assistant and Associate Treasurer.  In April 1997, Gary and his family were called by the General Conference to mission service in the country of Singapore, where he was appointed Associate Treasurer of the newly established Southern Asia-Pacific Division.  In November of that same year, the Johnsons moved to the Philippines, when the Southern Asia-Pacific Division headquarters moved into their new headquarters just outside of Manila.  It was here that the Johnson family made their home for the next 7½ years.

In July 2005, Gary once again received the call to the position of Secretary/Treasurer of the Guam-Micronesia Mission headquartered on the island of Guam.  This large geographical area of island nations in the western Pacific Ocean region is where Johnson has been serving for the past 3 years.

Johnson is married to the former Candice Jaqua, a certified elementary school teacher who has home schooled both of their children through the 3rd grade, and who enjoys singing and playing the piano and violin.  The couple has two children, Trevor age 13, and Julia age 10.  Together the family enjoys travel, music and various sports, particularly water sports.

The Johnsons state that they are looking forward to joining the Hawaii Conference ohana, and returning to the Pacific Union where Gary began his career.

It is with thankful hearts that the Hawaii Conference Executive Committee praises God for leading them to the Johnsons.  We look forward to their arrival in January.

"We should examine the precious flowers."

A Devotional Thought

In His Presence!

And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very goodGenesis 1:31

The great Master Artist calls our attention to the soulless flowers of the field, pointing out the beautiful tints and the wonderful variety of shades one flower may possess. Thus God has revealed His skill and care. Thus He would show the great love He has for every human being.
The Lord our Creator expends as much care, wisdom, and time upon the tiny flower as upon the great things He creates. In the tiniest flowers are seen a beauty and perfection that no human art can copy. The delicate tracery of the tinted rose, as well as the stars in the heavens, shows the penciling of the great Master Artist.

The Lord cares for the flowers. He gives them beauty and fragrance. Will He not much more give us the fragrance of a cheerful disposition? Ellen White, Our High Calling, page 254
